The design was carved for a client that wanted to present his wife with an heirloom box for Christmas.

The pictorial calligraphy bird pattern proved so pleasing that I used it on the lid of Design III in Gallery Room I

This example illustrates very well how chip carving can be executed in a flowing and very delicate style.
